We’ll talk about your goals, your level and what works for you.
I’ll ask you some open-ended questions so you can tell me a little about yourself and I can get an idea of your current English level. These will include me asking you to introduce yourself, to tell me about your current occupation is and what your general interests are. We will then move on to questions about what you hope to achieve from an English learning programme and how you would like to receive corrections and feedback.
Based on this, and any personal learning preferences you have, we can choose other resources like games, quizzes, current news clips and photo prompts to help us develop the session further. Here are some examples
- Games (examples) 1. Two Truths and a Lie, a game that focuses on speaking, listening and critical thinking. 2. Word Association Chain, a game that focuses on vocabulary building.
- Quizzes (example) 10 Multiple Choice Questions. This gives a good indication of your English level.
- Current News Clips (example) I will read a current news clip to you and then ask you questions about the content and your opinions of it. This exercise is good for listening and discussion skills.
- Photo Prompts (example) Photo Story Chain, we will look at a random photograph and build a story together one sentence each. This is a great way to assess your speaking skills.
Our session is not about testing you, we will be creating a relaxed environment where you pick up some English while we get to know each other.
